Ten Tiny Dances

6 p.m. Show
"Amor Fati" - Omnivore Dance
Yinqi Wang, Maggie Liang
Amor Fati is a duet that delves into loss, departure, reunion, love, and resistance. Rooted in dynamic physicality and emotional depth, it reflects the tension and tenderness of understanding oneself and loved ones. The choreography combines fluidity, sharp contrasts, and evocative gestures to navigate moments of love, hate, and reconciliation within intimate relationships. Amor Fati offers a visceral journey through resilience, acceptance, and the beauty of embracing life’s inevitable changes.
Behind Omnivore Dance is Yinqi and Maggie, two Chinese-born choreographers and dancers currently based in Columbus, Ohio. Their duet works often explore themes of power dynamics, intimacy and violence, folklore and mythology. Their collaborative works have been presented at various dance festivals in the US and China.

"Unfinished Business" – Greenhouse
Cody Clark
"Unfinished Business" is about the journey of a person to resolve their trauma before they die.
Greenhouse is a trans and disabled choreographer and studied dance and urban studies at the College of Wooster. They are also a community organizer and do work in mutual aid, storytelling, and worldbuilding. After graduation, they hope to jump into work surrounding art creation, disabled collaboration, radical housing work, caregiving, and/or public health advocacy. When they are not dancing, they enjoy naps, videogames, and spending time with friends. They dream of sharing soup with loved ones and spending their days doing big and little actions that tilt the world towards liberation.

"Check this out!" – All Our Friends Collective
Elyse Kassa, Laura Patterson
"Check this out!" is a playful, energetic duet. Elyse and Laura are athletic, absurd, and very enthusiastic.
Elyse Kassa is currently dancing, choreographing and writing in Columbus, OH. Elyse has performed as part of STILGO dance + tech, Lp & dancers, Perennial Movement Group in addition to touring her own solo and collaborative works around the region. She teaches and creates as part of "all our friends collective," which she founded in 2024. Elyse holds a BFA in Dance: Performance & Choreography from Ohio University.
Laura Patterson is a Columbus based choreographer, teaching artist, performer, and art administrator. She has performed with STILGO Dance + Tech, Whirlwind Dance Company, Perennial Movement Group, all our friends collective, and SALT II. Laura creates choreography under the company name Lp & dancers. Lp & dancers has presented work locally at the Wexner Center of the Arts, Columbus Performing Arts Center, Ohio History Center, Columbus Dance Theatre, and McConnell Arts Center as well as nationally in Cleveland, OH, Bellingham, WA, and Chicago, IL. Laura graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance.

"Story Time" – Patty Petecca, Anne Raspe, Ellie Bearss
Anne Raspe, originally from Chicago, IL, received her BA in Dance from Ohio Wesleyan University.  She has previously studied Cecchetti, as well as classical and contemporary ballet.  Although jazz, modern and contemporary dance, influenced by Merce Cunningham, Jose Limon, and Horton techniques have become Anne's personal favorite niche.  Her time at university fostered her interest in the exploration of momentum and weight sharing which has aided her time as a company member at Hixon Dance.  Anne joined Hixon in 2023 and is beginning her third season with the company, as well as her second session teaching at the studio.
Ellie Bearss has been dancing for 20+ years, graduating in 2022 from Ohio Wesleyan with a degree in dance.  She has danced with Hixon Dance Company in Columbus Oh for two seasons and is excited for the next.  She would like to thank her Mom, Dad, Rashana Perks-Smith, Anne Raspe, Nancy Smith-Fichter, and Jacey Scheffal for their ongoing support while she continues to throw herself through space!
Patty Petecca is former studio owner, choreographer and teacher of many forms of dance for over 30 years.  Currently she works at Opening Night in Gahanna as a certified pointe shoe fitter, Board President of New Vision Dance Company and Volunteer Chairperson for the New Albany Dance Festival.

"Rhythm Within" – Maela Belly Dance
Maela is a professional belly dancer based in Central Ohio, recognized for her elegant and authentic style. As both a performer and instructor, she remains dedicated to honoring the cultural roots of the dance while continually advancing her knowledge and artistry through ongoing study.

"Stuck on Seven" – Leah Anthony
This is about someone being in an elevator waiting for their stop, getting stuck in the elevator (it stops functioning), coming to the realization that they’re stuck, waiting to seek help because “Am I really stuck, or do I not know how to operate it?”, finally calling for help, hearing that help is on the way, being stuck longer than expected, contemplating life itself and what they’ve even done so far, fearing the worst (death), and reconciling with those feelings all before someone does really come, and they step out. The video submitted is just the beginning of the experience.
Leah is native to Ohio and has been dancing since the age of three. She graduated with her BA in Dance from The University of Akron in 2015. Leah is a founding member of Cultivate Dance Project and is the Assistant Rehearsal Director. She has taught at numerous studios and Northeast Ohio and taught for three years at Artisan Dance Studio here in Columbus. Leah works full time at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in the Behavioral Health Pavillon and works part time at Jet’s Pizza, mostly because it’s fun! Most of the dance art Leah creates comes from thoughts in her head that she experiments with in her house before setting them in real life on herself or other people.

"Entangled" – Gabriela Brito, Josie Farley
Entangled is an exploration of a common experience: connection, a necessity that is highly complex in nature. Relationships are an essential part of the human experience but poses unique challenges from person to person. What happens when we all become entangled?
Gabriela (Gaby) Brito is a dancer, educator, and choreographer from Columbus, Ohio. Her dance training includes Contemporary, Ballet, Jazz, African, and Latin styles. She recently graduated from The Ohio State University with a BFA in Dance and a BA in Psychology. Additionally, she was a Community Artist with Whirlwind Contemporary Dance in the company's third season.
Josie from Columbus, Ohio- a versatile dancer with a passion for contemporary, jazz, and ballet. I thrive on the creative and athletic energy of dance- bringing technical skills, a love for collaboration, and a commitment to continuous growth.  Educating young dancers is a passion of mine, as I have been choreographing and training dancers for 5 years. I am also excited to graduate with my BFA from The Ohio State University this December.

"Introspection" – The TurningT Collective
Trinity Stevens, Saige Rook
An exploration of connection between 2 dancers exploring physical touch and boundaries, reflecting on different relationships in our lives.
Trinity Stevens is a dancer/movement artist based in northeast Ohio, having received an Associate of Arts from Kent State University and graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Cleveland State University. At CSU, Stevens completed the coursework for the Dance in Community major, Theatre Studies minor, and Arts Management certificate while writing for two university publications and participating in the CSU Dance Company. "Thadheem" – Natya Nirvana
Sukanya Chand, Maya Chand
The piece showcases the technical aspect of Indian Classical dance form Bharatanatyam and Odissi.
Sukanya Chand is a dance practitioner who specializes in Bharatanatyam and Odissi- two of the eight Indian Classical Dance forms. Bharatanatyam originated from Southern India that embodies strong linearity and power while Odissi is from Eastern India that showcases circularity and isolations. Sukanya received her dance foundation in India and she explored the basics of Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Flamenco, Theater, and Modern dance when she moved to US. She enjoys choreographing solo and collaborative pieces that highlight the elements of Indian Classical, folk dances, creating traditional and contemporary pieces. She has produced a variety of performing arts events, creating cultural awareness, integration, enriching, and entertaining the Central Ohio community. She gives workshops and master classes through her dance company Natya Nirvana and is an instructor at MUCAI Academy in Worthington, Ohio.

"dream within a dream" – Macy Perry, Brittni Van Dine
Inspired by the quote "Life is short, have fun," I want to highlight how fun dance can be. Oftentimes, it is easier to choreograph a piece with a serious, emotional tone than it is to choreograph something about allowing yourself to have fun. Recently, in my journey as a dancer and choreographer, I have come to realize that moments of pure joy need to be celebrated more. As someone who struggles with my mental health, allowing myself to find joy in my everyday life is ESSENTIAL. I want to share this joy with audiences, dancers, and other artists.
Macy Perry is a graduate from Wright State University with her BFA in dance. She is a company member and choreographer for Dayton Dance Initiave. Macy was a second company member with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company during the 2024-2025 season. She performed alongside the main company in their show “The Littlest Angel.”  She was an apprentice for CPR Dance: Inhale Movement where she performed in various locations across Michigan. Macy’s choreographic work has been performed alongside notable choreographers such as: Ray Mercer, Jennifer Sydor, Gina Walther, and Hannah Williamson. She partnered with Dayton Dance Initiative to share her work with the city of Dayton for their celebration of the arts: Art in the City. Macy is also a 200 hour certified yoga instructor through Eternal Yoga and enjoys sharing her practice with others.
8 p.m. Show
"Cake Topper" – New Vision Dance Company
Madison Burks, Joe Gould
"Cake Topper" is a whimsical piece set to Dean Martin's classic hit "That's Amore." Imagine the cake topper of a wedding cake come to life!
New Vision Dance Company is a 501c3 non-profit organization. We are an adult Contemporary Jazz Dance ensemble serving central Ohio.

"Broken Music Box" – Cultivate Dance Company
Melissa Hinchman
This piece explores and looks to highlight the unique beauty of broken things centered around the portrayal of a broken music box dancer. From broken lines to disjointed and “ungrateful” movement, sometimes being broken is what gives us/something personality.
Cultivate Dance Project was founded by Artistic Director Melissa Hinchman in 2018. Melissa’s work with CDP has been featured in Columbus Dance Alliance’s WORKS #2, Cleveland Dance Fest, Dancing in Summer in Ypsilanti, MI, Constructed Sight Film Festival in Pittsburgh, PA, and New Albany Dance Festival. Melissa is a 2024 GCAC Artist Projects Grant recipient for a live performance and film that will premiere in summer 2025.

"Endangered Species" – Candice Flows
"Endangered Species" explores the journey of returning "home" – whether to one's body, community, or inner peace. Through personal challenges including COVID-19, pregnancy, and shifting life circumstances, I learned to balance self-care with necessary emotional processing. This journey, shared with my community, revealed our collective search for "home" and showed that healing happens best together. My choreographic style merges grace with strength, combining emotional depth and technical precision. Drawing from West African dance traditions, the movement vocabulary flows seamlessly between contemporary and hip-hop influences.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Candice Igeleke is a choreographer, certified yoga instructor, Joy Curator, and community arts practitioner. She is trained in Traditional West African, Hip Hop, Dancehall, and Contemporary Modern styles to her community and company, Candice Flows LLC—a creative consulting and performance-based company rooted in joy, healing, affirmation, and expression. Her relationship with dance is rooted in exploring how to make inner emotions tangible. Through engaging with emotions—from feeling "stuck" to "elated"—she examines how these feelings manifest in the body and transform through embodied movement.

"Phone" – Jess Gould
A light-hearted piece incorporating my love and appreciation for the elements of Vogue dance, such as hand performance, floor performance, dips, duck walk, and cat walk.
Jess Gould (she/he/they) graduated from Capital University with an English degree in 2024. She is a dance instructor at BalletMet and Village Creative Dance in Newark. She was a member of New Vision Dance Company for four seasons.

"Listening" – Camryn Nease
Camryn Nease is a performer, teacher, and choreographer from Columbus, Ohio with a B.F.A. in Dance from The Ohio State University. Over the course of her dance training, Camryn has worked with choreographers and dance professionals such as Sekou Heru, Gamal Brown, Donald Isom, Joshua Manculich, Crystal Michelle Perkins, Edward Taketa, Gregory King, Adam Cates, and Cassidy Noblett. After graduating, she began dancing professionally in the Columbus area with Hixon Dance and Whirlwind Dance Company. In the fall of 2025, Camryn will move to Southampton, MA, to train at the CLI Conservatory under the direction of Teddy Forance.
