Mission Statement
The mission of the New Vision Dance Co. is to create, celebrate and inspire dance by engaging the community through educational programs, quality performances and the creation of new choreography.
We serve adult dancers throughout Central Ohio by providing a place for them to continue their passion for dancing and performing by holding classes and workshops as well as presenting 3 full concerts of dance per year. We also serve the thousands of young dancers in Ohio by hosting workshops and giving them performance opportunities as Student Guest Artists in our productions.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Policy
At New Vision Dance Company, we are deeply committed to creating and sustaining an organizational culture that values diversity, inclusion, and equity by attracting, retaining and cultivating talented and socially conscious dancers, staff and board members. Dance as an artform reflects the rich cultural diversity of our community, and we are committed to educating, developing, and supporting an organization that embodies diversity in its many forms. Our widely diverse community of all-volunteer performers, staff and board of directors will be supported, valued, and free to contribute to the mission of this organization. We will live by our core values, foster creativity, seek challenges for growth, and hold ourselves accountable to our highest aspirations for a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization.
History
New Vision Dance Co. was founded in Seattle in 2006 by Artistic Director Melissa Gould. As a faculty member of a performing arts high school, The Washington Academy of Performing Arts, she had a group of dancers who wanted to continue performing her choreography. They rented space out of a local gym and created New Vision Dance Co. In the six years the company was in Seattle, Melissa worked with over 30 dancers and collaborated with many other companies as guest artists. They started by sharing the stage of Issaquah Dance Theatre during their biannual shows. Eventually the company started producing their own shows in small black box theatre venues, and their last three concerts were sold out events.
In 2013, the company relocated to Columbus, Ohio. Beginning with just three dancers in December of that year, the company quickly grew to 19 dancers by February and held their first concert in 2014. Their repertory includes Jazz, Contemporary, and Musical Theatre dance, which has been presented in concerts and as guest artists for showcases around Columbus. In 2017, New Vision Dance Co. was established as a non-profit.
